Four individuals, three of whom were labourers, tragically lost their lives due to inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a septic tank that was 15 years old in the New Mahal area of Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh.
Upon receiving the notification, the police quickly arrived at the scene and organized the post-mortem examination of the bodies.
According to the residents in the area, each of the three workers who went into the septic tank separately lost consciousness due to inhaling toxic fumes. The landlord’s son, who bravely entered the tank to rescue the workers, also passed out.
All four individuals were declared deceased upon reaching the hospital, despite the attempts made to rescue them.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Viraj Pandey shared that the cleaning process was underway at Bharat Jaiswal’s house, where tragically, three laborers and the homeowner’s son lost their lives. The District Administration has pledged a ₹4 lakh ex gratia payment to each deceased family.
Offering condolences, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lamented the loss of lives and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families. He directed officials to swiftly reach the location and accelerate relief operations.
