Iswar Prasanna Hazarika, a former Member of Parliament representing the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency, passed away this morning at 9:30 am at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi. He was 88 years old at the time of his passing.
The management of Fortis Hospital confirmed that Hazarika’s death was a result of a prolonged heart condition and its associated complications. Hazarika, who had been a resident of Delhi/Noida for over 50 years, was not only a distinguished academic but also a seasoned professional.
Having excelled in his matriculation, Hazarika was an alumni of Cotton College, Banaras Hindu University, and the Delhi School of Economics. He also held a Barrister Degree from the UK and was a member of Lincoln’s Inn. Throughout his career, Hazarika held significant positions such as Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC, Director on the Board of NTPC, Chairman of ASEB, Income Tax Commissioner, and held senior roles in GAIL, SAIL, among others.
He served as a Member of Parliament for the Tezpur Constituency from May 1996 to December 1997. Born in 1937 to Tirtheswar Hazarika, a lawyer and freedom fighter, and Mokshada Devi, Hazarika’s upbringing was deeply rooted in the Indian independence movement.
His funeral is scheduled to take place at the Lodhi Cremation Ground at 5 pm. Iswar Prasanna Hazarika’s significant contributions to society and governance will be remembered with respect and appreciation.
