Former President of the Asom Gana Parishad and former Assam cabinet minister Thaneswar Boro passed away at the age of 86 on May 17 at 7:05 am.
The former Assam education minister had been hospitalized at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) due to a severe heart condition.
Reports indicate that his mortal remains will be transported from Guwahati to Rangia, where many parties and organizations will pay tribute.
Thaneswar Boro, who had also served as Assam’s education and revenue minister, was initially hospitalized in Rangia on Thursday, May 9, after his health condition worsened, leading to his admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Swasti Hospital.
On May 9, due to his deteriorating health, the ex-cabinet minister was moved to the ICU of GMCH.
Notably, Thaneswar Boro founded the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in 2016 and had faced health challenges previously. Last year, in a show of support, the Assam administration pledged to cover the costs of his medical treatment during a period of hospitalization.
In July 2023, during a previous hospitalization, cabinet minister Jayanta Mallabaruah was sent by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to assess Boro’s condition and provide updates on his health.
