In a major development under latest news Assam, widespread violence erupted across West Bengal following the declaration of Assembly election results, leaving at least four people dead and triggering large-scale unrest in multiple districts.

Reports indicate that more than 400 offices belonging to the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) were vandalised amid escalating clashes between workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling TMC.

Violence Reported Across Multiple Districts

Since May 4, incidents of election-related violence have reportedly surfaced from more than a dozen locations across the state, raising serious concerns regarding public safety and law and order.

Several fatalities and injuries were reported during clashes between rival political groups as tensions intensified after the election outcome.

Election Commission Orders Strict Action

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has directed authorities to take immediate and strict action against those involved in violence, vandalism, and unlawful activities.

Instructions have reportedly been issued to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Kolkata Police Commissioner, and district administrations to ensure continuous patrolling and prompt arrests wherever necessary.

The Election Commission has adopted what officials described as a “zero-tolerance” approach toward post-election violence.

Security Personnel Injured In Sandeshkhali Firing

Tensions escalated further on May 5 in the Bamangheri area of Sandeshkhali, where unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire on police and central security forces during a patrol operation.

Three security personnel sustained injuries during the firing incident, intensifying concerns over the volatile situation in the region.

State Government Announces Inquiry

In response to the violence, the West Bengal government has announced the formation of a 10-member fact-finding committee to investigate the incidents and assess the situation across affected areas.
