Breaking news Guwahati: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has imposed strict restrictions around the vote counting centre in Guwahati ahead of the May 4 vote counting process to maintain law and order.

According to an official notification issued by the District Commissioner’s office, several activities including bursting crackers, fireworks, victory processions, and sloganeering have been banned within a 200-metre radius of the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.

The centre has been designated as the official counting venue for the elections, and the administration aims to ensure a peaceful and controlled environment during the results declaration.

The restrictions will remain in force from 12 midnight to 11:59 PM on May 4, 2026, or until the complete announcement of results.

Officials have warned that any violation of the imposed restrictions will attract strict legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

This move comes as part of precautionary measures to avoid crowd gatherings and maintain security during the high-sensitivity counting period in Guwahati.
