Journalists Attacked in Morigaon, Gambling Mafia Accused of Assault and Vandalism

In a shocking case from Assam, several journalists were allegedly attacked in Morigaon district while covering an illegal gambling operation, raising serious concerns about press safety in the region.
The incident took place in Lahorighat near the Kathani Bilpar riverbank, where media persons had gone to report on illegal gambling activities.
Attack by Gambling Mafia
According to reports, the journalists were assaulted by members of a gambling mafia group led by Zakirul and his associates. The attackers allegedly used force to stop media coverage of the illegal operation.
Several journalists sustained injuries during the attack, while others were reportedly held hostage for nearly two hours.
Equipment Destroyed, Media Targeted
The attackers allegedly snatched mobile phones and damaged expensive camera equipment and boom mics belonging to media personnel.
Equipment of news channel Sach The Reality was also vandalised during the incident, highlighting the severity of the attack on press freedom.
Police Action and Investigation
An FIR has been registered at Belouguri Police Station against Zakirul and Khairul. Authorities have initiated an investigation to identify all those involved in the assault.
Police officials have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and that law and order will be maintained.
