Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, confirmed his first visit to India and expressed his anticipation for the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Elon Musk is scheduled to meet with PM Modi in New Delhi during the week of April 22, as reported by the Reuters news agency. This upcoming meeting follows their previous encounter in New York back in June. Over the past few months, Tesla has been actively advocating for a reduction in import taxes on electric vehicles in India, while simultaneously considering the establishment of a factory in the country.
According to sources cited by The Hindu BusinessLine, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer is currently engaged in preliminary discussions with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to establish a collaborative enterprise aimed at constructing a manufacturing facility in India. Tesla has been actively exploring different regions within India, and both Gujarat and Maharashtra have emerged as potential locations for the plant. The report suggests that Maharashtra is the preferred option for the venture.
The government unveiled a fresh Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in March with the goal of positioning India as a leading global manufacturing centre for EVs. The policy mandates a minimum investment of ₹4,150 crore, while there is no upper limit on investment, in order to entice investments from renowned global EV manufacturers.
The government’s electric vehicle (EV) scheme, designed to establish India as a top manufacturing hub for technologically advanced EVs, has set forth various important goals. These goals encompass attracting investments from international EV manufacturers, encouraging the uptake of cutting-edge EV technology among Indian consumers, and strengthening the Make in India campaign. Additionally, Tesla’s introduction into the Indian market offers significant potential for the nation’s economy and environment.
