Dubai International (DXB) has once again been recognized by the Airports Council International (ACI) as the world’s busiest international airport for international travel in 2023, marking the 10th consecutive year for this achievement.
Airports Council International (ACI) unveiled its most recent ranking of the world’s busiest aviation hubs on Monday, with DXB securing the top spot in the international passenger category. ACI serves as a coalition of airport authorities dedicated to harmonizing industry standards for airports.
Nevertheless, based on ACI’s rankings for 2023, Dubai achieved the second spot in the ‘passengers’ category for the first time ever. Throughout the period from January to December 2023, DXB recorded over 86.9 million traffic figures, showing a significant increase of 31.7% compared to the previous year.
ACI reported that the projected number of global passengers for 2023 is approximately 8.5 billion, indicating a significant rebound of 93.8% from pre-pandemic figures. It is worth highlighting that the recovery of international travel is approaching that of domestic travel, underscoring its crucial contribution to the revival and growth of the aviation sector.
Furthermore, the ACI’s preliminary top 10 busiest airports list encompasses the following airports, alongside DXB:
- London Heathrow – 2nd
- Amsterdam Schiphol – 3rd
- Paris Charles de Gaulle – 4th
