The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch announced on Sunday that they have dismantled two counterfeit Indian spices manufacturing facilities in Karawal Nagar by apprehending three individuals.
The police received information indicating that certain manufacturers and shopkeepers in North East Delhi are engaged in the production and sale of adulterated spices under different brand names in Delhi/NCR.
The apprehension of three individuals by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has led to the dismantling of two illicit Indian spices manufacturing facilities in Karawal Nagar, as announced on Sunday. Authorities confiscated a combined weight of 15 tons of counterfeit spices and unprocessed ingredients during the raid.
A group was assembled to track the inputs and oversee the operations occurring at the factory situated in Karawal Nagar. On May 1, a raid was conducted, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals named Dilip Singh, also known as Bunty (46), Sarfaraj (32) and Khurshid Malik (42), as confirmed by the police.
During the raid, law enforcement teams apprehended Dilip and Khursheed. Dilip claimed ownership of the manufacturing unit, while Khursheed confessed to being the supplier of the adulterated spices produced there.
During the raid, the manufacturing unit was found to contain adulterated spices like turmeric powder, mixed spice powder, dried mango powder, as well as other raw materials such as spoiled rice, spoiled coconuts, eucalyptus leaves, spoiled berries, sawdust, citric acid, artificial colouring agents, and dried chili stems.
Police discovered that Dilip Singh was running the processing unit and producing contaminated turmeric with prohibited non-edible substances, acids, and oils in large amounts. Upon questioning, Dilip confessed to being the proprietor of the manufacturing facility, while also implicating Khurshid as the supplier of counterfeit spices in the market.
