We’ve all heard that a person needs at least 6-7 hours of sleep to function well, right? Well, prepare to be amazed because there’s someone out there who has been surviving on just 30 minutes of sleep daily; for the past 12 years! And no, he’s not an alien.

30- MIN SLEEP WONDER

Daisuke Hori, a 40-year-old entrepreneur from the Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, has surprised many with his extraordinary sleep routine. For over a decade, Hori has trained his body to function on just half an hour of sleep each day. His motivation? To double his waking hours and improve his productivity.

SCIENCE OF SLEEP: WHAT’S NORMAL?

Typically, the human body requires around 6-7 hours of sleep for optimal health. Experts agree that getting consistent sleep enhances mood, cognitive functioning, and overall health. Moreover, lack of sleep can lead to irritability, reduced focus, and long-term health issues.

JOURNEY TO 30-MINUTE SLEEP: DAISUKE HORI

Hori’s unconventional sleep routine began 12 years ago when he decided to cut down on his sleep to make more time for his daily activities. Over time, he reduced his sleep to just 30-45 minutes each day. Additionally, to avoid tiredness, Hori depends on staying active and, surprisingly, drinking coffee before meals.

In 2016, Hori founded the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association (JSSTA). At JSSTA, he teaches others about the relationship between sleep and health. Hori believes that those in high-pressure jobs, like doctors and firefighters, benefit more from quality sleep than quantity.

ULTRA-SHORT SLEEPER: DAISUKE HORI

A Japanese TV show followed Hori for a few days to get a glimpse into his unique lifestyle. On one of these days, Hori woke up refreshed after just 26 minutes of sleep, went about his day, and even managed to hit the gym!

Hori’s influence has spread far and wide. His online profile reveals that he has trained over 2,100 individuals in the art of extremely short sleeping. Consequently, one of his students reported reducing her sleep from eight hours to just 90 minutes per day and has maintained this routine for four years without any adverse effects on her skin or mental health.

While Daisuke Hori’s lifestyle may seem like a dream come true for those wishing they had more hours in the day, it’s important to remember that everyone’s body is different. Therefore, what works for one person might not work for another.

For now, Hori’s story serves as a reminder that sometimes, the human body can adapt in incredible ways.
