A group of cyber criminals has been apprehended by the Hatigaon police in a major crackdown on cybercrime. 9 individuals were arrested from Bhetapara as part of this operation.
The suspects were taken into custody from Urbanica Homestay, located on Chandra Chowdhury Road in Bhetapara. It was discovered that they had been staying there since April 10, using false identities to book 3 rooms. It has been reported that the perpetrators rented out these rooms using the names of individuals from West Bengal, with 4 of the accused being natives of West Bengal themselves, namely Rupam Goswami, Deepak Singh, Feroz Khan, and Shloka Kumar. The remaining 5 suspects are residents of Assam.
Authorities suspect that this organization has participated in a string of cyber offences throughout Assam, specifically targeting unsuspecting individuals and enticing them into deceptive schemes. It is claimed that the perpetrators operated a highly advanced network, employing various strategies to obtain personal banking information from ordinary citizens and subsequently involving them in fraudulent endeavours.
Several key pieces of evidence, such as laptops, mobile phones, and incriminating documents, were confiscated by law enforcement during the operation. These items are anticipated to shed light on the full scope of their illegal activities. Reports indicate that numerous individuals in Assam have been targeted by their fraudulent schemes, underscoring the widespread prevalence of cybercrime and emphasizing the importance of stringent enforcement actions.
