In a strategic move to bolster its campaign ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has announced the ‘Nari Nyay Guarantee’ initiative. This initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, comprises five announcements aimed at empowering women across the country.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge outlined the key components of the ‘Nari Nyay Guarantee’ during a video message played at the Mahila Melava Meeting in Dhule, Maharashtra. Kharge emphasized the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment and outlined the following promises:
- Mahalaxmi Guarantee: Under this pledge, one woman from every poor family will receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh per annum. This measure aims to provide crucial support to women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Aadhi Aabadi Poora Haq: Congress vows to ensure that women have rights over half of the new recruitments at the Central Government level. This initiative seeks to address gender disparities in employment opportunities and promote gender equality in the workforce.
- Shakti Ka Sammaan: The Congress party pledges to double the Central Government’s contribution to the monthly income of Anganwadi, ASHA, and midday meal workers if it comes to power at the Centre. This commitment aims to recognize and honour the invaluable contributions of frontline women workers in various social welfare programs.
- Adhikar Maitri: Congress promises to appoint a paralegal at every panchayat to create awareness among women about their rights and provide them with necessary support. This initiative underscores the party’s efforts to empower women by equipping them with knowledge and resources to assert their rights.
- Savitribai Phule Hostels: Congress commits to constructing at least one hostel for working women at district headquarters across the country. Additionally, the party aims to double the number of such hostels nationwide, providing safe and affordable accommodation for women pursuing employment opportunities away from home.
The announcement of the ‘Nari Nyay Guarantee’ shows Congress’s focus on addressing issues related to women’s empowerment and social welfare. As the Lok Sabha elections draw closer, the party seeks to position itself as a champion of women’s rights and a proponent of inclusive governance.
