The residence of TMC leader Mahua Moitra was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday as part of the cash for query case. Additionally, CBI is carrying out raids at various other locations in Kolkata.
This action was taken following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mahua Moitra by the CBI the previous day.
The Lokpal, an anti-corruption body, had instructed the CBI earlier this week to investigate the allegations against Ms. Moitra and provide a report within six months. Despite being expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year due to alleged “unethical conduct,” Mahua is currently challenging her expulsion in the Supreme Court. She is also gearing up to contest the upcoming general elections as the TMC’s candidate from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.
It has been alleged that Mahua had requested money and presents from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for posing inquiries in the Lok Sabha to condemn industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among others. Mahua strongly refuted these claims.
