Anwarul Azim Anar, a Member of Parliament from Bangladesh, was reported missing in Kolkata for several days. Sources informed India Today that he was brutally murdered, with his body skinned and bones shattered before being scattered throughout the city.

Following the arrest of a suspect by the West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID), the disturbing specifics of Anar’s death were revealed on Friday, May 24th.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of parliament from the ruling Awami League, disappeared on May 13. Anar, who had supposedly travelled to Kolkata on May 12 for a medical examination, maintained communication with his family until May 17, following which he, became unreachable. Anar had initially been staying at the residence of his family friend, Gopal Biswas. Following his disappearance, Biswas lodged a missing person report on May 18.

CID sources have revealed that the individual in question, Jihad Hawladar, worked as a butcher and resided in Barakpur, Bangladesh. It has been discovered that he was unlawfully staying in Mumbai. Hawladar was recruited by Akhtaruzzaman, a friend of Anar and a US citizen, who rented a house where the unfortunate murder took place. Hawladar had arrived in Kolkata two months prior and had been accommodated in a hotel near the Kolkata Airport. Additional information from sources indicates that Akhtaruzzaman provided Hawladar with a sum of ₹5 crore as payment for carrying out the assassination of Anar.

During the CID interrogation, Hawladar admitted to being involved in the murder of Anar along with his four accomplices, all Bangladeshi nationals, at a flat in Kolkata’s New Town area. He also stated that the crime was committed under the instructions of Akhtaruzzaman.

The assailants stripped Anar’s corpse and diced the flesh to erase his identity, according to details from CID sources. Following this, the bones were fractured into pieces and stored in multiple plastic pouches. The perpetrators then journeyed to different areas of the city and disposed of the pouches. Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of the ruling party Awami League, served as a lawmaker representing the Jhenaidah-4 constituency in Bangladesh.
