Atishi, cabinet minister in Delhi, announced on Monday that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire at the Ghazipur landfill.
On Sunday evening, a significant fire erupted at the landfill site located in east Delhi. The probable cause of the fire, as stated by officials, is the prevailing hot and dry weather conditions.
At a press conference, Atishi stated that Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal visited the site yesterday. Today, Mayor Shelly Oberoi will be visiting the site to take stock of the situation. The Delhi Fire Service tenders were deployed through the night and the blaze has been doused. Some smoke is still left. They will surely carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire and the process by which it started.
On Monday, billowing clouds of smoke could still be seen rising into the sky from the landfill. The Delhi Fire Service reported that a major fire broke out on Sunday evening, caused by the gases emitted from the enormous pile of waste.
