Officials announced on Saturday that Assam Rifles achieved yet another triumph in their relentless fight against smuggling operations. This time, they successfully seized 100 bags of betel nuts, each weighing 80 kg, with a total value of ₹56 lakh. The massive haul weighed a staggering 8000 kilograms and was recovered in Ruantlang, located in the Champhai district.

Based on an official statement, the operation was conducted by a joint team of Assam Rifles in Champhai along with the Customs Preventive Force on Friday, as per specific information. The complete shipment of areca nuts was transferred to the Custom Preventive Force Champhai for subsequent legal actions.

The continuous smuggling of prohibited goods remains a significant issue for both Mizoram and India. Assam Rifles, known as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’, persistently combat illegal smuggling activities and have intensified their operations to apprehend the masterminds behind the contraband trade in Mizoram.

The day before, Assam Rifles had carried out two distinct operations in Aizawl and Hnahlan of Mizoram, seizing heroin valued at ₹11 crore. Additionally, the team detained two individuals from Myanmar, aged 50 and 53.
