Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sounded a strong alarm over alleged incidents of illegal cattle slaughter during the Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations across the state. In a post shared on social media, CM Sarma revealed disturbing details about the recovery of cattle parts and the busting of slaughter sites, emphasizing that strict legal action is being taken regardless of community or faith.
According to the Chief Minister, five separate locations in Assam reported the recovery of cattle parts. These include areas near Cotton University in Kamrup (Metro), Dhubri, Hojai, and Sribhumi (Bagargool). Acting swiftly on these reports, authorities uncovered five illegal slaughter sites—three in Cachar district (Gumrah, Silchar, and Lakhipur) and two in Karimganj (Badarpur and Banga).
Law enforcement agencies have arrested 16 people in connection with these cases—nine from Cachar and seven from Sribhumi.
CM Sarma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while maintaining communal harmony. “While our Constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, it equally upholds the rule of law and public order,” he stated. He made it clear that Assam will not tolerate any form of illegal activity and that violators will face strict action, irrespective of their religious or social background.
The Chief Minister concluded by stating that the goal is to maintain peace and order in society, but “not at the cost of lawlessness or cruelty.” His firm tone indicates a zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents and a message that the law applies equally to all.
