Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ignited speculation regarding the potential defection of Congress leader and APCC President Bhupen Borah to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing reporters today, Sarma confidently asserted, “Ask me, when will Bhupen Borah join the BJP? He will join the BJP anytime. Since I am saying this, I have a reason for it. He will join soon.”
Sarma’s remarks, backed by his purported insider knowledge, have sent shockwaves through Assam’s political landscape.
Further adding to the intrigue, Sarma referenced the royal lineage of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, hinting at the shifting political allegiances within the state. This development comes at a critical juncture as Assam gears up for potential political realignments ahead of upcoming elections.
Amidst the political manoeuvring, Sarma also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent arrests. Asserting a stance on legal compliance, Sarma emphasized, “If an enforcement agency is giving you notice continuously, you must reply to them. If you don’t reply, you will get arrested.” He criticized Kejriwal’s legal advisors, denouncing them as “ill advocates” for advising non-compliance with summons.
In a lighter moment amidst the political tension, Chief Minister Sarma embraced the local hospitality of Asom Gana Parishad leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury in Bongaigaon. Sarma jovially remarked, “I ate all the fish served to me,”.
The unfolding events in Assam underscore the dynamic nature of state politics, with Assam CM’s assertions and actions shaping the discourse and setting the stage for potential political shifts. As the state navigates through intricate political landscapes, all eyes remain on the unfolding developments, awaiting the next chapter in Assam’s political saga.
