Four individuals have been arrested by the Manipur police for possessing a substantial stockpile of arms and ammunition in the Bishnupur district of Manipur.

The authorities seized three SLR Rifles, four empty magazines, 20 live rounds, seven mobile phones, a Baofeng Walkie Talkie Set, two cars, bags, and several other items from their possession. The individuals who were arrested have been recognized as Salam Rameshwor Singh, aged 48, Tongbram Gyanjit Singh also known as Chinglensana, aged 39, Pukhrem Ingocha Singh, aged 40, and Thokchom Temba also known as Wakheiba, aged 50.

In relation to this issue, the police have commenced an investigation. Previously, security forces carried out search operations in the outskirts and high-risk areas of hill and valley districts. These operations yielded positive results as a significant quantity of weapons and illegal substances were uncovered.

On March 25, 2024, during the search operations in Maphou Bazaar and Maphou Kuki Village in Thoubal Dam-PS, Imphal East District, security forces stumbled upon a substantial stock of weapons.

Among the findings was an improvised mortar, towering at a height of 6 feet, accompanied by two bipod/mount units and a base plate. The authorities also discovered 32 live rounds of homemade launcher bombs, five ammunition round caps for homemade launchers, and an explosive weighing around 1.5 kg. The confiscated items also included 1.5 meters of Cordtex wire, two lighters, and roughly 20 grams of suspected heroin. The cache also held two hand grenades, one Pompeii mortar, and 60 fired cases.
