As the Lok Sabha polling in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on April 19 approaches, female voters in Androth have expressed their need for gynecologists on the island. Additionally, they have emphasized the necessity for enhanced transportation services for both residents and tourists in the archipelago.

A local resident expressed the necessity for gynecologists in Lakshadweep. Whenever there is a requirement for specialists in this medical field, they have to be brought in from other islands. In terms of transportation, there is a need for more frequent vessels and simpler ticket booking procedures. It is often challenging to travel between islands when necessary, leading to the need to journey to the mainland for medical attention.

The residents of Androth have expressed their desire for job opportunities, particularly in the private sector. One of the main challenges they face is transportation, as they often struggle to secure timely tickets for travel. Visiting the mainland poses additional obstacles that they must navigate. With limited job openings in private firms on the island, it is crucial for more employment opportunities to be created in the private sector.

The requirement for a properly equipped hospital that could address the gynecological needs of women was expressed, along with the necessity for additional doctors to meet the medical needs of the local population in the island cluster.

The islands have a population of around 57,574 eligible voters, with 28,442 being women. Lakshadweep is recognized as the Lok Sabha constituency with the smallest number of voters in the country, electing a single MP to the Lok Sabha. The Union Territory is scheduled to hold elections in the initial phase of the general elections, on April 19. The Lok Sabha polls in Lakshadweep will feature a three-way contest involving the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), Congress, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which is backed by the BJP, its ally in the ruling NDA coalition in Maharashtra.
