An early Friday morning tragedy occurred in the Supaul region of Bihar when a portion of a bridge that was still under construction fell, killing one labourer and possibly trapping dozens more.

Authorities are concerned that as many as 30 workers may still be trapped under the debris following the collapse of the bridge. The Kosi River bridge spanning 10.2 kilometres was purportedly constructed for a whopping ₹984 million. It was intended to connect Bheja in Madhubani with Bakaur in Supaul district and was under the jurisdiction of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The incident is strikingly similar to the collapse of a bridge that was still under construction in Bhagalpur, Bihar, which prompted a spat between the state administration and the opposition BJP. Like a house of cards, the four-lane bridge built across the Ganges river had collapsed.
