After passing the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exam, Pushpanjali Bora from Guwahati ended her marriage, leaving her husband. She left their home on the pretext of training, taking with her gold valued at ₹3.50 lakh, including ₹2 lakh in cash, and other valuable belongings.

Pushpanjali Bora and her husband, Rekib Ahmed, first met during their college years at Gauhati University in 2011–12. Rekib has been financially supporting his wife ever since, covering all her expenses, including APSC coaching fees.

However, tensions arose when Rekib discovered that Pushpanjali had been concealing his identity at her workplace, a prominent APSC coaching institute in Guwahati’s Chandmari locality. Despite his repeated inquiries, Pushpanjali allegedly threatened suicide if Rekib pursued the matter further.

The situation escalated when Pushpanjali successfully passed the recently announced APSC exam, securing the position of Assistant Audit Officer. Feeling betrayed and deceived, Rekib filed a complaint at the Chandmari police station, citing financial irregularities and emotional distress.
