The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has declared notable initiative to commemorate the heritage of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbarua, a prominent author of Assam. This includes refurbishing his home in Sambalpur, Odisha, and erecting a magnificent statue in his honor.
This initiative seeks to honour Bezbarua’s literary achievements and the cultural connection he established between Assam and Odisha.
Lakshminath Bezbarua, often honoured as Sahityarathi, is renowned for his profound literary creations that have served as a wellspring of inspiration for successive generations. His dwelling in Sambalpur, recognized as Sadhana Griha, carries significant historical and cultural importance as the birthplace of many of his seminal writings.
Accompanied by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, CM Sarma recently paid homage to Bezbarua by visiting his Baax Griha and Sadhana Griha. Reflecting on the visit, Sarma shared on Twitter, “Today, I had the privilege of visiting his Baax Griha and Sadhana Griha with Dharmendra Pradhan ji to pay our respects. Witnessing these modest beginnings where he crafted works that resonated across generations was truly profound.”
The ongoing renovation endeavour and the installation of a statue are integral components of a wider initiative aimed at safeguarding and promoting the cultural legacy associated with Bezbarua. These attempts are anticipated to draw scholars, literature enthusiasts, and tourists, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of his contributions to Assamese and Indian literature.
