Brazil was selected as the host country for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 after a public vote during the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.
On Friday, the FIFA Congress chose the host for the 2027 tournament from a narrowed selection of two candidates. This decision followed the withdrawal of a joint bid by the United States and Mexico last month, and South Africa pulling out its candidacy in November.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup host was determined for the first time via an open vote at FIFA Congress, resulting in Brazil securing 119 votes compared to the 78 votes received by the joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany.
This marked the first instance where all of FIFA’s member associations had a say in determining the host of the women’s tournament. Previously, this decision rested with the FIFA Council, the organization’s governing body.
Brazil was widely expected to emerge victorious, especially after receiving a higher ranking in a recent FIFA evaluation report. Notably, Brazil had previously hosted the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2014.
The tournament in 2027 will mark the 10th edition of the event and will be the inaugural occasion that the FIFA Women’s World Cup takes place in South America. Previous tournaments have been hosted in China PR, Sweden, the USA, Germany, Canada, France, and Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand (co-hosts).
