Karnataka police reported that the 32-year-old man suspected of decapitating his 16-year-old fiancée in Madikeri and fleeing with her severed head was discovered deceased on Friday.

Prakash’s body was located in Hammiyala village within Madikeri taluka of Kodagu district, with authorities indicating a probable case of suicide based on initial findings. Authorities mentioned that the search for the girl’s head is ongoing.

The man was intended to marry Meena, a recent Class 10 graduate. Upon learning of the situation, officials from the Child Welfare Department intervened at the venue, instructing the families to halt the ceremony due to the girl’s underage status, which could lead to legal consequences under the POCSO and Child Marriage acts.

Following counselling sessions with the families, they consented to call off the ceremony and delay the marriage until Meena reached the age of 18.

However, the man appeared to dissent. He forcibly entered the teenager’s residence, assaulting her parents, according to police reports. He physically attacked her father and wounded her mother with a sharp object. Subsequently, he dragged the girl approximately 100 meters from the house and purportedly beheaded her before fleeing. The victim’s parents were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
