AIIMS Delhi has announced plans to increase its CATH lab capacity in response to the rising need for essential cardiovascular and neurological procedures, as stated by officials on Tuesday.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi plans to establish a CATH lab in the emergency department to facilitate swift primary neuro, cardio, and other endovascular interventions, according to Dr. Rima Dada, the professor-in-charge of the Media Cell. This strategic decision stems from a thorough evaluation of current patient volume and the necessity for immediate interventions, especially in emergency scenarios.

Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, emphasized the pressing need to bridge the gap between the demand for CATH lab services and the existing infrastructure during recent discussions with AIIMS faculty members, as stated by Dr. Dada.

It was noted that the current number of operational CATH labs is insufficient to meet the increasing demand, resulting in prolonged wait times for complex neuro and cardio procedures. Additionally, the lack of a dedicated CATH lab in the emergency department has led to delays in administering primary interventions, affecting patient outcomes.

In light of these challenges, AIIMS Delhi has committed to proactive measures to optimize patient care. Dr. Dada mentioned that the Cardio Neuro Centre will expand the number of CATH labs to meet projected requirements promptly. Furthermore, a shared CATH lab will be established in the emergency department to ensure timely primary interventions for neuro, cardio, and other endovascular cases during the critical golden hour.

This expansion aims to streamline critical interventions and reduce waiting times, ensuring timely access to life-saving treatments for patients. Dr. Dada highlighted that enhancing the CATH lab capacity at AIIMS New Delhi demonstrates their steadfast dedication to advancing healthcare delivery and meeting evolving patient needs.

By investing in cutting-edge infrastructure and specialized facilities, AIIMS remains committed to delivering the highest standards of care and improving clinical outcomes, she added.
