In the face of ongoing challenges posed by severe weather conditions in parts of Meghalaya due to continuous heavy rain, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reassured the public that the government is actively coordinating with disaster management authorities to respond promptly.

Chief Minister Sangma shared on a microblogging platform on May 6 that amidst the persistent rainfall across the state and hailstorms in certain areas of Meghalaya, he remains in constant communication with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and relevant District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA) to ensure swift action.

Highlighting the efforts of the State Disaster Management Authority and District Disaster Management Authorities in providing relief materials and essential aid to those affected, the Meghalaya chief minister also mentioned ongoing assessments of property damage.

He indicated that while evaluations of personal property damage are ongoing, instructions have been given to District Disaster Management Authorities to expedite the distribution of urgent relief materials to affected households.

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted continued heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in Northeast India until May 7. Additionally, widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Previously, Chief Minister Sangma had reported extensive damage caused by intense winds and heavy rainfall across the state.
