Anju and Harshita, the wrestling champions of India, demonstrated exceptional skills and delivered outstanding performances, securing silver medals individually at the prestigious Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Anju claimed the silver medal in the weight category of women’s 53kg, whereas Harshita Mor attained the second position in the women’s 72kg category. Manisha Bhanwala and Antim Panghal, on the other hand, secured bronze medals in the weight classes of women’s 62kg and 65kg, respectively.
Anju’s journey to the silver medal was highlighted by dominant performances, notably defeating Aliah Gavalez of the Philippines 12-1 and triumphing over Sri Lanka’s Nethmi Poruthotage 14-4. Despite a challenging 9-6 victory in the semi-finals against Chun Lei of China, she ultimately fell short in the final, experiencing a 10-0 defeat against Ji Hyang Kim of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Harshita’s pursuit of a gold medal concluded with a courageous display, resulting in a silver medal following a challenging 5-2 defeat to Qian Jiang of China in the championship match.
Manisha contributed to India’s medal count by winning bronze in the women’s 62kg category, and Antim Kundu also secured bronze in the women’s 65kg division. Manisha achieved her bronze medal with a dominant 5-0 victory against Arian G. Carpo from the Philippines. Antim achieved her bronze medal in a rather unconventional way, as her competitor, Soobin Kim from South Korea, was unable to participate due to an injury.
