Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Atul Bora, the Agriculture Minister of Assam and the representative of the Bokakhat Assembly constituency, emphasized the significant contribution of the tea garden community to Assam’s electoral scene.
Bora claims that throughout history, the tea garden community has remained a steadfast supporter of the Congress party. However, he condemns the party for disregarding the developmental requirements of this particular demographic. Bora emphasizes the persistent obstacles encountered by the tea garden populace, while commending the current government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for effectively tackling numerous of these concerns.
Highlighting the significance of the tea garden voters in his constituency, Bora emphasized the large presence of tea garden workers at a recent gathering attended by CM Sarma. He further highlighted that the NDA candidate for the Kaziranga parliamentary seat hails from the tea garden community, suggesting a wider appeal of the NDA’s platform within this demographic.
Bora is optimistic about the NDA’s chances and foresees success for NDA candidates in areas where tea garden voters hold sway. He believes that the government’s initiatives, such as raising wages for workers, will help garner support from the tea garden community.
