The significance of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement is emphasized, whereas any mentions pertaining to the destruction of the Babri Masjid have been omitted from three sections within the NCERT’s Class XII political science textbook.

The anticipated arrival of the updated textbook in educational institutions is scheduled within a month. These modifications are an integral component of the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT) initiative to revise school course materials for the academic year 2024-25. The revised guidelines were recently conveyed to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The primary educational institution, responsible for providing recommendations to the central government regarding policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of school education, has recently updated the history textbooks for Class 12. This revision establishes a connection between contemporary India and the Harappan civilization, while challenging the Aryan migration theory. Initially proposed by Western academics, this theory posited that a group of individuals from Europe or Central Asia replaced the Harappan civilization.

Chapter 8 of the political science textbook encompasses various significant revisions made by the NCERT. In addition to shedding light on the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and omitting references to the Babri Masjid, the chapter delves into the Congress’ decline. Furthermore, it incorporates revisions pertaining to the 1990 Mandal Commission, the commencement of economic reforms in 1991, and the tragic assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.

Since 2014, NCERT textbooks have undergone revision or amendment for the fourth time, which included a “rationalization” process resulting in controversial deletions. This exercise was initiated by the government in response to the pandemic, with the aim of alleviating the academic workload on students.
