The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) made a remarkable breakthrough by announcing the birth of a baby girl who was conceived through the use of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology. This historic event occurred on 7 March.
Prof. (Dr) Achyut Chandra Baishya, the principal of GMCH, shared this information during a press conference held at the hospital. He mentioned that in 2022, an infertility clinic was established at GMCH. Furthermore, on March 27, 2024, a baby girl who was conceived through IVF was successfully delivered via caesarean section at the hospital. The new born weighed 2.6 kg, and both the mother and baby are currently in a stable condition.
The hospital authorities have scheduled the IVF treatment to take place every week on Wednesdays and Fridays.
