Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently compared the current Congress members to ‘fixed deposits’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

CM Sarma stated that all loyal family members are part of the BJP, except for a few loyal members of the Congress party. He highlighted that in the past month and a half, a considerable number of Congress members and prominent leaders have switched to the BJP’s ally AGP or the saffron party, including booth-level workers.

“I believe that by 2026 there will be no party called Congress party in Assam and will survive in small pockets of the state,” CM added.

On March 24th, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma raised questions regarding the potential switch of Congress leader and APCC President Bhupen Borah to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
