The Indian Space Research Organisation has announced the launch of YUVIKA 2026, its main student outreach initiative aimed at fostering interest in space science among school children. YUVIKA, short for Young Scientist Programme, is meant to give young students early exposure to India’s space missions, satellite technology, and rocket science through hands-on learning experiences.

According to ISRO’s notification, the application window will open in late February and stay open through March 2026. The program is available to students currently studying in Class 9 at recognized schools across India. Selection will be based on merit, considering academic performance and involvement in science-related activities.

ISRO will announce the shortlisted candidates in April. Selected students will then attend a two-week residential program in May 2026. This course will feature lectures by ISRO scientists, hands-on activities, facility visits, and interactive sessions aimed at building basic knowledge in space science and technology.

Students will be hosted at specific ISRO centers across the country. These include the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, U R Rao Satellite Centre, Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, ISRO Propulsion Complex, and the North Eastern Space Applications Centre. Each center will run the program with customized modules focused on their areas of expertise.

ISRO has made it clear that there will be no registration or participation fee. The organization will cover expenses for course materials and training. Guidelines for travel arrangements will be provided to selected students.

Launched in 2019, YUVIKA shows ISRO’s long-term vision of promoting scientific thinking among young minds and developing a pipeline of future space scientists and engineers. With India pursuing ambitious programs like human spaceflight and lunar exploration, this initiative aims to inspire the next generation to contribute to the country’s growing space ecosystem.

Further details and application links will be available on ISRO’s official website once registrations open.
