In the matter of deceptive ads, the Supreme Court has summoned Acharya Balkrishna, the managing director of Patanjali Ayurveda, and Baba Ramdev, the yoga guru, to appear before it on the next hearing. The firm failed to reply to the contempt notice, therefore the supreme court issued the order.
Sections 3 and 4 under Drugs and Remedies Act are prima facie violated by Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna.
Previously, the supreme court harshly criticized Patanjali Ayurveda, declaring that the entire nation had been “taken for a ride”. It prevented Patanjali Ayurveda from promoting or endorsing goods intended for medical treatment until further directives.
As mentioned in their commitment on November 21 of last year, a bench of justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah further advised the corporation and its personnel not to make any statements in print or electronic media criticizing any medical system in any way.
