In preparation for the upcoming Arunachal Pradesh assembly polls which is scheduled to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its list of 60 candidates. Notably, Chief Minister Pema Khandu is set to contest from his home constituency of Mukto, reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. The list that retained most of its incumbent MLAs, was released following a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee chaired by BJP President JP Nadda.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had secured 57 out of 60 seats in the 2019 state assembly polls, indicating the party’s strong presence in the region.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also unveiled its first list of 195 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Notable figures in the list include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. With 34 ministers from the Center and States, as well as two former chief ministers, featured on the list, the BJP aims to replicate its 2019 electoral success on the national stage.
The announcement of candidates signals the BJP’s proactive stance in the upcoming polls, as it seeks to maintain its stronghold in Arunachal Pradesh while also making significant strides in the Lok Sabha elections.
