In a significant uplift to India’s agricultural economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will disburse the 20th tranche of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme on August 2, 2025, to over 9 crore farmers in the country. The disbursement will be made during a mega event in Valsad, Gujarat, and is likely to cross ₹20,000 crore in direct benefit transfers (DBT).

What is PM-KISAN?
PM-KISAN, launched in 2019, is among the largest direct income support programs for farmers in the world. Eligible landholding farmers are given ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 every four months. The payments are deposited directly into their bank accounts through DBT.
As of July 2025, more than ₹3 lakh crore has been released to agricultural households among 11 crore beneficiaries, enabling support towards their agriculture expenses, seed buying, and domestic needs.
Empowering the ‘Annadatas’
The 20th installment is well-timed as farmers prepare for the Kharif sowing season. With increasing input prices and irregular monsoon trends in some parts of India, the guaranteed financial relief is a welcome respite for small and marginal farmers.
As per government reports, more than 86% of PM-KISAN beneficiaries are small and marginal farmers who own less than 2 hectares of land. The program has been appreciated for introducing inclusivity and stability to rural incomes.

Tech-Powered Transparency
The government has tightened the Aadhaar-based e-KYC and land authentication process to check fraud and ensure that only true farmers are given the benefits. The Ministry of Agriculture is weeding out ineligible beneficiaries at a faster pace, bringing more accountability into the system.
Farmers are also being urged to connect their Jan Dhan accounts, mobile numbers, and land records to prevent delays in payments. This payment will be reflective of enhanced data transparency and real-time monitoring through the official PM-KISAN portal.
Political and Social Impact
With the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year and PM Modi coming back for a third term, the launch of this installment indicates the government’s ongoing focus on rural welfare. It should reinforce farmers’ confidence in government schemes and strengthen the promise of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
