The 96th Academy Awards or the Oscars 2024 ceremony was presented by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which was held on March 10, 2024, in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards were given out by the AMPAS during the banquet in 23 categories to celebrate movies that were released in 2023.
Directed by Hamish Hamilton, the event was produced by Raj Kapoor, Molly McNearney, and Katy Mullan and broadcast on ABC in the United States. Comedian Jimmy Kennel hosted the Oscars ceremony for the fourth time.
After receiving nominations in 13 different categories, Oppenheimer emerged as the big winner of the evening, winning seven Oscars including Best Picture, while also earning Christopher Nolan and actors Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr awards for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
Resuming his role as Ken from Barbie, Ryan Gosling performed the movie’s iconic musical number, “I’m Just Ken”, to thunderous cheers. Another song from Barbie, “What Was I Made For? was performed by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell. Becky G gave a terrific performance of “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot.
Presenters of the awards included famous personalities and celebrities like Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lawrence, John Cena, Dwayne Johnson, Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Chris Hemsworth, Danny DeVito, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron, Al Pacino, Brendan Frasar, Tim Robbins and Ben Kingsley, among others.
