Fourteen children who participated in the Shiv Barat procession on the occasion of Mahashivratri in Kota, Rajasthan sustained burn injuries after getting electrocuted. According to authorities, two of the fourteen children are critically injured, and one child has suffered burns all over. The kids, who were between the ages of 7 and 15, were electrocuted by a high-tension power line that was overhead in the Sakatoura neighbourhood beneath the Kunhari police station.
According to Amrita Duhan, Kota City’s Superintendent of Police (SP), 12 children had burn injuries of less than 50%, while two had burn injuries of 50% and 100%, respectively. The MBS hospital in Kota has admitted all of the injured patients. The police said that the incident happened today between 11:30 and 12 noon during a Shiv Barat procession through Kalibasti. During the march, one of the youngsters struck the overhead high-tension line while carrying a flag atop a 22-foot-tall iron rod.
Police reported that the youngster carrying the flag had a 100% burn damage. According to the SP, 12 other lads who tried to save him also suffered from burn injuries, with one of them suffering from burns that were less than 50% severe.
Eyewitnesses said that everyone was dancing and singing when suddenly a loud bang was heard with sparks. Expressing grief, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma directed the district administration to provide immediate assistance and the best treatment to the children. The CM concluded that an investigation will be conducted keeping all aspects of the unfortunate accident in mind.
