The Additional District Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram has sentenced Greeshma to death for the 2022 murder of 23-year-old Sharon Raj. She was found guilty of poisoning Sharon with pesticide-laced ayurvedic decoction. Despite fighting for his life for 11 days in an ICU, Sharon passed away. The court also sentenced Greeshma’s uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in the crime.

Crucial Evidence: Sharon’s Last Moments

A key piece of evidence was a video Sharon recorded, showing his suspicion of the drink, despite Greeshma’s attempts to stop him. His determination to survive was evident, as he fought for his life without drinking water throughout the ordeal.

Greeshma’s defense, claiming mental pressure and abuse by Sharon, was dismissed by the court due to a lack of evidence. Sharon had never accused her of abuse, and no such evidence was found. The court also disregarded her claim of youthful age, stating that the severity of the crime was not mitigated by it.

Conviction Under Multiple IPC Sections

Greeshma was convicted under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder (Section 302), abduction with intent to commit murder (Section 364), administering poison (Section 328), and obstruction of justice (Section 203). Her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was found guilty of attempting to conceal the crime.

Sharon’s Dying Declaration: A Key Turning Point

Sharon’s dying declaration, where he revealed that he had consumed the herbal medicine without suspecting harm, played a crucial role in the investigation. Forensic evidence further supported the poisoning claim. The trial, which began in October 2024 and concluded in January 2025, involved over 95 witnesses and a thorough investigation.
