The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has revealed its electoral strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam, declaring its intention to contest three out of the 14 parliamentary seats in the state. Following a crucial general council meeting, AIUDF has decided to strategically contest in Dhubri, Nagaon, and Karimganj constituencies.
As per sources close to AIUDF, the party is set to nominate its sitting MP and leader, Badruddin Ajmal, once again from the Dhubri seat. Additionally, senior leader and Dhing MLA Aminul Islam is expected to contest from the Nagaon seat, a move aimed at leveraging the minority card, with the Congress eyeing victory in the same constituency. Dr KM Baharul Islam is likely to be AIUDF’s candidate for the Karimganj seat.
Aminul Islam, shedding light on the party’s preparations, revealed that the candidates for Dhubri, Nagaon, and Karimganj seats are nearly finalized.
In a significant strategic move, AIUDF plans to extend support to the strongest contenders against candidates presented by the BJP and its allies for the remaining 11 seats in Assam. While Islam refrained from specifying any particular political party, he hinted that the supported candidates might also hail from the INDIA bloc.
Expressing disappointment, Islam highlighted AIUDF’s exclusion from the anti-BJP alliance, despite attempts to strengthen the prospects of the INDIA bloc. He mentioned receiving indirect proposals from the Congress, contrasting their initial rejection with subsequent approaches seeking AIUDF’s support.
Islam vehemently refuted allegations of AIUDF being a B-team for the BJP, asserting the party’s independent identity and commitment to strategic electoral choices.
The unveiling of AIUDF’s election strategy sets the stage for an intriguing electoral battle in Assam, with the party positioning itself strategically to contest key constituencies and influence the electoral dynamics in the state.
