In a significant move aimed at empowering the youth of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has fulfilled another promise made to the public in 2021. Following the successful provision of nearly 1.5 lakh government jobs, the Assam government is set to offer financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh each to 2 lakh entrepreneurs. This initiative, part of the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (Self-Reliant Assam Campaign), is designed to help individuals achieve self-sufficiency and foster entrepreneurship within the state.
The financial assistance is structured not as a loan but as a seed investment to empower the youth of Assam. This approach underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial spirit among young people, providing them with the necessary financial support to kickstart their ventures. CM Sarma stated, “Through this scheme, we are committed to empowering our youth to become self-reliant by providing financial assistance, training, and market access,” highlighting the holistic support being extended to the future entrepreneurs of Assam.
To avail of this financial assistance, eligible entrepreneurs must present valid identification documents, including PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, or any government-recognized photo ID when collecting their drafts. The program aims to support various sectors, such as agriculture, fisheries, and self-employment, with a total subsidy grant of ₹510 crore allocated for this initiative. This financial backing is expected to alleviate some of the challenges faced by aspiring entrepreneurs and enable them to thrive in their respective industries.
In addition to the initial financial assistance, the scheme will further support entrepreneurs upon completion of a three-day training program related to their industries. This training is designed to enhance their business skills and prepare them for successful ventures, aligning with the government’s goal of reducing unemployment in the region. By equipping young entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed, the Assam government aims to create a more robust and self-sufficient economy that benefits the entire community.
Through this initiative, Assam is taking a vital step towards economic empowerment, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, and paving the way for a self-reliant future for its youth. As the program rolls out, many are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on local economies and the lives of aspiring entrepreneurs across the state.
