For the first time ever, a 60-year-old lawyer made history by winning the Miss Universe Buenos Aires beauty pageant. Alejandra Rodríguez competed against 34 other contestants, whose ages ranged from 18 to 73, to claim the title.

Hailing from La Plata, Argentina she is both a lawyer and a journalist. Following her graduation, she pursued journalism as her career path, as reported by the New York Post. Subsequently, she pursued legal studies and assumed the role of a legal advisor for a hospital. Her accomplishments have defied stereotypes and signify a significant transformation in beauty pageants.

For many years, ‘The Miss Universe’ pageants only permitted women aged between 18 and 28 to participate. However, as reported by The Independent, the Miss Universe Organization announced in 2023 that starting from 2024, there would be no maximum age limit for these beauty contests. Individuals above the age of 18 were now eligible to compete for the Miss Universe pageants.

Rodríguez is not the sole individual challenging age-related beauty norms in the realm of pageantry. Haidy Cruz, aged 47, is also vying to represent the Dominican Republic in the 2024 Miss Universe pageant.

The Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to take place in Mexico on 24 September, featuring contestants from around the globe vying for the prestigious title. Participants such as Rodríguez and Cruz potentially gracing the stage will serve as a powerful testament to the public that age is merely a number.
